2023 Report

In addition to our own educational training activities which are held at ERA’s premises, external events are also regularly hosted here. This taxable activity is marketed under ‘ERA Conference Centre (ECC)’. The events are, for example, trade fairs, congresses, conferences and seminars or receptions. The ECC has had a special relationship with the neighbouring hotel Vienna House Easy by Wyndham Trier over many years and the hotel also organises events for their clients at the ECC.

Event highlights at the ECC

In 2023, ECC business was challenged by a lack of sufficient resources for selling and implementing activities. This resulted in only being able to organise activities for its core clients and unfortunately declining most of the new queries. However, a good mix of different kinds of event could be maintained with events organised by local or regional authorities, associations and private companies.
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate regularly organises events at the ECC. For example, representatives from Saarland, Grand Est, Luxembourg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Wallonia met at the end of the year for the plenary session of the Interregional Parliamentary Council at the ECC.
In spring 2023, the German City Marketing Congress took place as a face-to-face and online event at the ECC. In addition to the main conference, a members’ meeting and a trade exhibition were also organised. It is also pleasing for the ECC that some regional companies have chosen the ECC for their annual meetings for several years now.

ECC Revenue

Overall, 2023 was a somewhat disappointing year for the ECC.
Most of the year was plagued by only very limited resources available to require and implement ECC activities.

Rent, beverages and food services remained the primary sources of operating revenue for the ECC. Combined, these resources accounted for 58% of total ECC revenue in 2023, significantly lower than in previous years.

Since ERA’s EMAS certification in January 2021, ERA has placed particular emphasis on making its own and third-party services more sustainable. An initial catalogue of measures was discussed and recorded in 2023. It will continue to be the basis for future implementation of various measures relating to the realisation of conferences.
